When Honda introduced CR-Z for the first time, back in 2010, they have claimed that this is the first sport compact hybrid electric car in the world. CR-Z represents a great combination of traditional elements of a sports car (2+2 seats) and hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain. It is considered that the CR-Z is a direct successor of once very popular compact sports car – the Honda CR-X. The two cars share the design of the exterior, which is something that can be seen at the first look. Now, the Japanese manufacturer plans to unveil the all-new 2016 Honda CR Z and according to the reports, it is going to be based on the new Honda Civic Type-R, which means that the new CR-Z might be sportier than ever.
2016 Honda CR Z Exterior
When it comes to the exterior, it is highly unlikely that the Japanese manufacturer will drastically change the iconic design, borrowed from the CR-X. However, some spy images have caught a Honda Civic Type-R used as a test mule and reports suggest that the Honda was using the Type-R exterior to hide the exterior details of the new CR-Z. If this is true, this means that the next-generation 2016 Honda CR Z might bring more changes on the outside than what was initially thought – first of all, Civic Type-R is significantly larger and since some reports that suggest that the platform for the new CR-Z is going to be the one used for the Civic Type-R, it could be that the Japanese manufacturer plans to unveil a completely new 2016 Honda CR-Z.
Interior of 2016 CR Z
Since there are no official images of the interior of the 2016 Honda CR Z, we can only assume what is the new interior going to look like. The same reports that claim that the all-new CR-Z is going to be built on the Civic Type-R, say that these two cars are going to share even the interior. This could turn out to be true, especially when you take in account that the two cars had similar interior before. This means that we could finally see those amazing front racing bucket seats from the Civic Type-R in another car, and if the Japanese manufacturer decide to use the black and silver three spoke steering wheel, the 2016 Honda CR Z will surely be a success! Rumors also suggest that the next-generation CR-Z is going to have a new 9-inch touch screen display, used for control of the infotainment system and for the satellite navigation.
Engine of new 2016 Honda CR Z
One of the areas where the customers felt that the CR-Z is not good enough is the powertrain. The current model has 1.5l engine that produces combined 150 horsepower (with the electric engine). This is about to change, since the 2016 Honda CR Z is, most probably, going to have a 1.5l inline-4 engine that should produce around 220 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque, with the assistance of electric motor, of course.
Honda CR Z 2016 Price
The price of the base 2016 Honda CR Z should be around $20,000.
2016 Honda CR Z Release date
